Khufu
(reigned c. 2592–2566 BC)
The Greek form of his name is Cheops. Second king of Dynasty 4, son of Snefru and Hetepheres I. The Great PyramidatGizawas built during his reign as his tomb, surrounded by the mastaba tombs of his family and officials, including his vizier, Hemiunu. Little is known about his reign, but he was remembered in later times as a harsh ruler. According to the Turin Royal Canon, he reigned for 23 years, but an inscription, apparently of his year 27, has recently been discovered.
